5 Home Remedies For Teeth Whitening

It is quite normal that with time stains and discoloration can develop on your teeth. Which isn’t a pleasant thing as it can make you self conscious of how you appear to others – and even make you reluctant to smile! And that’s not a good thing.

But whilst there are some fairly harsh chemical treatments that will make your teeth gleam, there are also some much less harmful home remedies you can also try first.

Here’s my selection of 5 home remedies to help whiten your teeth:-

1. Lemon Juice

You can get pearl like sparkle in your teeth; all you need to do is to apply lemon juice!

This is one of the most effective ways you can get rid of stains in your teeth. All you need to do is just to brush your teeth with a few drops of lemon juice. It’s effective and at the same time the ingredients are always easily available. Just don’t use it too often.

2. Wood Ash

Another fast and effective method of getting rid of stains from your mouth is to apply wood ash. This is simply because wood ash contains a good amount of potassium hydroxide, which works excellently to make your teeth white. The ash from hard woods is more effective though as in soft wood ash the concentrate of potassium hydroxide is much lower.

It’s admittedly a bit of an acquired taste however.

3. Mashed Strawberries

This one tastes a lot better! And can actually get rid of the stains on your teeth.

What you need to do is to first mash a couple of strawberries to make a smooth pulp. Then simply brush your teeth with the pulp. It’s more effective if you can leave it on your teeth for 5 minutes or so, but avoid leaving it much longer as the slightly acid nature of the strawberry can harm your teeth if you overdo it.

4. Baking Soda

This has to be one of the widest used and most effective home remedies to make your teeth shine. You can use it on it’s own, or mix it with your regular toothpaste. Many toothpastes now actually contain a small amount of baking soda, so even the big pharmaceutical companies have started to recognize some of the more natural methods.

5. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is one of the best agents to whiten teeth. This is commonly used by dentists for expensive whitening treatments – but you can buy it at the pharmacy and use it home yourself. Just be careful as this can be fairly nasty stuff. The American Dental Association says this is safe but only for 3% hydrogen peroxide solutions.

You can use this as a mouthwash before you brush (spit it out and rinse afterwards of course – you don’t want to be swallowing this). Or you can mix it into a paste along with baking soda to brush with. But rinse, and brush gently again with toothpaste to clear the paste afterwards.

I hope you find these home remedy tips useful, and manage to whiten your teeth to the level you want. Any comments or suggestions, just add them below.

Lemon Juice, wow that’s different, then again it is a citrus acid so of course it should be able to clean, I’ll give that one ago. Not sure about strawberries though.

I once used lemon juice but it didn’t work on well with my teeth! I guess using baking soda is much better for my teeth! Teeth whitening and ready to smile for our friends!

It is really interesting that lemon juice can help get rid of stains on your teeth. That is good for me to know because I have a few coffee stains on my teeth. I want to get my teeth whiter before my sister’s wedding. It might be smart for me to talk to a dentist about ways I can get my teeth whiter in a few months time.
